Netmarble eyes global market with big releases in 2021
Netmarble’s earnings this year are expected to be good as the game giant is set to release big titles tied to its popular intellectual property.
According to the company, Sunday, a series of titles based on storylines, characters, and in-game universes of previous hit titles on the global market are set to be rolled out this year. They include “Seven Knights: Revolution,” “Cross Worlds,” “Marvel Future Revolution,” and “Blade & Soul Revolution.”
“Seven Knights: Revolution” was first unveiled at the 2019 G-Star game exhibition in Busan and has been drawing high expectations as the latest sequel to its “Seven Knights” mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) series. “Revolution” depicts a story after heroes of previous titles have disappeared.
Netmarble said it expects “Revolution” to become its new flagship, with plans to launch it in the first half of the year in Korea and Japan.
“Cross Worlds” is also a mobile MMORPG based on the popular Japanese game series “Ni no Kuni.” It is highlighted by animated graphics, quality cut scenes, and an interesting storyline. Netmarble plans to publish “Cross Worlds” in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan in the first half.
“Marvel Future Revolution” is a mobile open-world role-playing game based on Marvel Comics creations. Marc Sumerak, who participated in the writing of the Marvel franchises including the Avengers, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel, has joined the story making for “Marvel Future Revolution.” The title is expected to be available in the second half.
Also, Netmarble said is seeking to publish its hit title “Blade & Soul Revolution” in the U.S. and European markets in the first quarter. “Blade & Soul Revolution” is a mobile MMORPG based on the company’s “Blade & Soul” series, and debuted in the Asian market in May last year.
“Since Seven Knights: Revolution and Cross Worlds are based on intellectual property that is highly recognized not only in Korea but also in Japan, their chance of success is high,” IBK Securities analyst Lee Seung-hoon said. “Given Netmarble is planning to roll out new titles every quarter this year, this will likely result in momentum for sales.”
Netmarble posted a noticeable outcome last year, as titles based on popular games made strides in their sales.
Among them, “The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross” displayed favorable results. The title, which debuted in the global market in March last year, ranked No. 3 in North American Apple App Store sales, becoming the first among games developed by a Korean firm.
Its baseball game “Magu Magu 2020 Mobile,” which debuted in Taiwan in November, was the most popular game in both Apple App Store and Google Play.
