To relieve a blocked gut caused by days of hiccups, the president traveled from Brasilia to Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

Bolsonaro, a former army captain, has been hospitalized many times after a near-fatal campaign trail stabbing. Last year, he caught COVID-19.

According to the president’s physicians, “Jair Messias Bolsonaro, remains hospitalized in Hospital Vila Nova Star, in Sao Paulo, evolving in a good clinical and laboratory manner.”

“The President remains hospitalized,” the message said.

Bolsonaro’s son Flavio tweeted that his father may not require surgery.

If this continues, President @jairbolsonaro won’t require surgery!” Senator Flavio Bolsonaro posted on Twitter.

Bolsonaro was to undergo further testing on Thursday, according to G1.

Bolsonaro, 66, was transported from a hospital in Brasilia on Wednesday, according to the president’s office.

Doctors at the Vila Nova Star hospital in Sao Paulo said the president will initially be “under conservative management.”

“I appreciate everyone for their support and prayers,” Bolsonaro stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

A snapshot of him shirtless and eyes closed on a hospital bed surrounded by sensors and cables accompanied the statement. A priest with a crucifix stood next to him.

With the photo and a statement slamming his leftist opponents, some speculated that Bolsonaro was exploiting his illness for political benefit. Many in Brazil feel the 2018 knife assault, and the overwhelming sympathy it inspired, helped him win.

According to Folha de S.Paulo, Bolsonaro’s illness allowed him to revive one of his campaign “favorites… the political martyr.

” “Bolsonaro did not manufacture his health situation,” it stated, adding that he is “in one of the most demanding times of his tenure.”

In addition to Bolsonaro’s handling of the coronavirus epidemic, lawmakers are looking into a corruption issue surrounding his government’s procurement of vaccinations. Brazil has the second-largest COVID-19 mortality toll in the world, after the United States.

For the first time, a majority of Brazilians believe the epidemic is “completely under control” or “mostly under control,” according to a Datafolha survey released on Thursday.
